Recently, I was in New York City on business for the week, traveling with a couple of my ninjas and staying at our client's preferred Hilton a mile or so offsite. Two of us were getting into the elevator one evening and a vacationing couple, upon hearing our conversation about powering through the night to finish building a particular component, asked, "Are you guys like the A-Team or something?"
We were a little taken back by that. Several days into this particular engagement, we DID feel like Hannibal and BA, though. (Face was sleeping, I think, and nobody qualified to be Murdock.) It was an interesting thing to be considered mercenaries, which of course we were in a few senses:
- We brought our own guns. (Computers in this case.)
- Once the assignment was done, we got to go home and wait for the next assignment.
- We always paid in cash. (This part is inexplicable and doesn't even make sense. But it's a true parallel.)
That week was particularly challenging, exhausting, and rewarding. Two out of three of those are why we do what we do, and ultimately why I started my company. And, of course, there's killing the bad guys with our abundant AK-47s.
